Dec 16 Goodbye iPhone - Hello Light Phone

Goodbye iPhone

My wife and I have decided that iPhones or comparable smartphones need to stop being in our life. I will have to do a write-up on all the points on why but essentially they don’t offer enough value to us and are constantly in our pocketes trying to demand more of our focus. We are tired of the mental battle of having to use the phone but also have the discipline not to overuse it.

Also, we both can make progress and not use the phone much for 6 months but then it seems like it slowly creeps back into our daily lives more and more.

To help us in this pursuit - we will be ditching smartphones.

The X Factor

There is an additional reason we want to ditch smartphones that is beyond our own personal health. Our kids, we want them to grow up with a healthy image of responsible phone usage so naturally, that starts with us. Gotta put our money with our mouth is.

The Light Phone

I am going to be the test “dummy” for my wife and I on what phones can work with us long term. I have my eye on a few options.

Up first . . . The Light Phone.

My first impression is amazed at how small it is - it actually fits in my pocket reasonably which seems rare nowadays in the world of phones. Of course, on the backside of that trade-off is the fact that the screen is naturally smaller.

The biggest pain last time I switched to a flip phone was transferring contacts so I was a bit nervous about that but the folks at light phone made it incredibly easy. I have an iPhone currently so I was able to link my icloud with my light phone account and all the contacts transferred over within 5 minutes. Kuddos to that!

I will say that it is amazing how quickly my brain can start to feel like it has less “static” when I drop the smartphone.

I have only been using the phone for a week so I will keep you posted and come back with a more indepth write up.
